Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • ¾ pound lean ground beef (80% lean)
  • ½ cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 12 ounces tomato paste
  • 13 ounces tomato sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons basil leaves
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt or more
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons flat leaf parsley
  • 12 ounces lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons flat leaf parsley
  • ½ teaspoon salt, see directions for remain. ingredients

Directions

1. 3/4pound mozzarella cheese slices
2. 3/4cup grated Parmesan cheese
3. Preheat oven to 375°. Cook together meats, onion and garlic. Add tomato cans, water, sugar, spices and 2 tablespoon fresh parsley. Simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
4. Cook the noodles and drain.
5. Mix together ricotta, egg, 1/2 teas salt and 2 tablespoon fresh parley.
6. To assemble in 9 x 13 pan, lightly sprayed.
7. 1=1 1/2 cup sauce
8. 2=6 noodles
9. 3=1/2 of the ricotta mixture
10. 4=1/3of the mozzarella cheese
11. 5=1 1/2 cup sauce
12. 6=1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
13. 7=repeat and end with mozzarella and the remaining Parmesan cheese.
14. Spray foil and cover. Bake 25 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 25 minutes.
15. Let rest for 15 minutes.
