Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 egg yolk +, enough milk to make 2/3 cup
- 5 cups apples, sliced and pared
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 ½ tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 to 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 cups crushed corn flakes
Directions
Combine flour, salt, sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add shortening and yolk/milk mixture and beat until becomes a dough. Roll out 1/2 of the dough and place in a jelly roll pan. Add crushed corn flakes. Mix together sugar and cinnamon and toss with sliced apples. Add apples over the corn flakes. Roll remaining dough and cover the apple mixture. Beat left-over egg white and brush onto the crust. Bake at 350° for 25-35 minutes or until golden brown. Mixture together powdered sugar, milk and butter. Drizzle over slightly cooled bars. |
