Ingredients

  • 28 ounces can tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 pound sirloin or round steak
  • 2 sweet Italian sausage, chunked
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • basil, salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • Ricotta and grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

1. Drain tomatoes juice from can and reserve liquid. Put tomatoes into a food processor and pulse until chunky. Simmer, covered, in a large pot.
2. Chop onion. Saute, using enough olive oil to coat the bottom of the skillet, over medium-low heat until translucent. Mince garlic and add to the onion.
3. Put onion mixture into tomato mixture.
4. Brown chopped meat and sausage in skillet. Add to tomato mixture.
5. Add cut-up parsley, basil, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for several hours. Add reserved tomato juice as needed.
6. Cook pasta and spoon into bowls, top with sauce and the cheeses.
