Ingredients
- 2.5 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 5.5-6 cups flour
Directions
Add yeast and then sprinkle sugar over the water. Let set 5 minutes. Stir in salt, oil, and flour. Knead the dough for a few minutes, until smooth and pulls away from the bowl. Cover with a warm wet towel and let rest for 15 minutes. (Put a bowl of water into microwave for 2 minutes. Remove and put dough in the microwave) Divide dough into two long loaves, roll like a jelly roll tucking the ends under. Place both on greased cookie sheet. Make slash marks in each loaf, about four each. Allow to sit while oven is heating. Bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes. For a crunchy crust, brush with one egg white combined with 1 T of cold water. |
