Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons pure olive oil
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 stalk celery , finely chopped
- 1 small carrot, peeled and finely chopped
- ½ pound ground beef, extra lean
- ½ pound Italian sausage, ground
- ¾ cup milk
- ¾ cup dry white wine
- 3 pounds roma tomatoes, peeled, seeded, chopped
- 6 ounces tomato sauce
- ground nutmeg
- salt
- red pepper flakes
Directions
1. In large, heavy frying pan over medium-low heat, heat the olive oil. Add the onion and saute, stirring frequently, for 8 minutes. |
2. Add celery and carrots and saute, stirring frequently for 10 minutes. Add meats, breaking up and saute until no longer pink. |
3. Stir in milk, and simmer about 8 minutes. |
4. Add wine and simmer about 8 minutes. |
5. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, nutmeg, salt and pepper flakes to taste. Increase the heat to medium, stirring, bring the sauce to a simmer and then reduce the heat to very low. Simmer, stirring frequently for at least 2 1/2 hours. |
