Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 celery rib, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ pound ground sirloin
  • ½ pound hot Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ¼ cup dry red wine
  • ¾ cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 14 ounces crushed canned tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon basil and oregano, EACH

Directions

Mince onion, celery, carrot, and garlic in a food processor; set aside.

Heat oil in saute pan over medium-high. Add sirloin and sausage and saute until brown. Add minced mixture to pan, saute 2-3 minutes.

Stir in paste and cook one minute. Stir in wine and cook one minute. Add broth, tomatoes, and spices. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook 15 minutes.

Serve over noodles or creamy polenta.
