Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef sirloin
- ½ pound bulk sweet Italian sausage
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ½ cup chopped celery
- ½ cup chopped carrot
- 1 tablespoon grated garlic
- 28 ounces canned whole tomatoes, chopped
- ½ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup dry red wine
- ¼ cup low-sodium beef broth
- ¼ cup tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
- ½ cup mascarpone or cream cheese
Directions
1. Heat the oil in a saute pan over medium heat. Add beef and sausage; cook until no longer pink. Using a fine mesh sieve, drain off fat; set beef and sausage aside. |
2. Mince onion, celery, carrot, and garlic in a food processor; transfer to a slow cooker. |
3. Add meat mixture, tomatoes, milk, wine, broth, tomato paste, vinegar, and spices. Cover; cook on low-heat setting for 3-4 hours. Immediately before serving sauce, stir in the cheese. |
4. Serve over pasta. (16 oz) To add some spice to your pasta. Cook your pasta according to the directions on the package. Drain and add to the pasta: |

6. 1/2 cup minced fresh parsley |
7. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil |
