Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef sirloin
  • ½ pound bulk sweet Italian sausage
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup chopped carrot
  • 1 tablespoon grated garlic
  • 28 ounces canned whole tomatoes, chopped
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup dry red wine
  • ¼ cup low-sodium beef broth
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • ½ cup mascarpone or cream cheese

Directions

1. Heat the oil in a saute pan over medium heat. Add beef and sausage; cook until no longer pink. Using a fine mesh sieve, drain off fat; set beef and sausage aside.
2. Mince onion, celery, carrot, and garlic in a food processor; transfer to a slow cooker.
3. Add meat mixture, tomatoes, milk, wine, broth, tomato paste, vinegar, and spices. Cover; cook on low-heat setting for 3-4 hours. Immediately before serving sauce, stir in the cheese.
4. Serve over pasta. (16 oz) To add some spice to your pasta. Cook your pasta according to the directions on the package. Drain and add to the pasta:
5. 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
6. 1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
7. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
8. pepper to taste
